Daily Think: Long Range

I think good-looking skyboxes and long draw distances are more important than great detail up close that’s been married with horrible detail at long distance. I remember there are at least two sections in the original Left 4 Dead where you can see where the map just ends, and they’re out in the open, like they’re not trying to hide very well at all. Uncharted 2’s the same way (though it’s got some awful low-quality textures up close too that kinda ruin it for me). Gears of War 3’s got this on occasion, which is, just as it is with the others, very disappointing. The cliffhanger mission in Modern Warfare 2 has one of the worst skyboxes I’ve seen in a modern game.

I wish more games could do it as well as Halo: Reach. 😦
